Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Welcome to your Telstra & JB Hunter RPL Experience

JB Hunter and Telstra have coordinated a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process to recognise your time in the field with Telstra. The RPL process, as outlined below, has been designed to assist workers transitioning from Telstra to gain nationally accredited units of competency that can be used across the Telecommunications industry. The RPL process can be daunting, and is not without effort, but the team at JB Hunter will work with you to advise on what unit may be obtainable given your previous work experience.

Telstra workers will recieve a discounted rate of $220 (GST exempt) per unit for RPL applications.

Read the below information and submit an enquiry at the bottom of the page to proceed with RPL

What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process for formally acknowledging skills, knowledge and experience constructed through everyday experience. If you have industry experience in the telecommunications industry it’s possible you can get recognition of existing skills and older qualifications you may have held.

RPL can include anything you may have learned or experienced in any context including school, training, community organisations, sport, work or recreation. For instance you may have learnt how to work as a team by participating in a sport. RPL can include both formal and non-formal learning contexts.

The defining characteristic of an RPL process is the involvement of suitably qualified and skilled assessor and a rigorous assessment process. Our trainers and assessors have the experience and knowledge to guide students though the RPL process.

Evidence collection

Evidence should be collected using the ‘STAR’ approach for each Unit of Competency:

  • Situation: Identify the situation i.e. employer, workplace and when and where you have done that type of work or study
  • Task: Describe what was to be done and what was your role
  • Action: Explain what you did
  • Result: The outcome that demonstrates competency

Cover all critical evidence listed in the RPL submission tool. This will be a diverse range of documents including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), audit documents, designs, drawings, emails, photos and test results. Third party statements from a boss/supervisor can also be used.
