Our pole top rescue course covers all aspects of this important safety procedure. For workers in the telecommunication industry it’s important to understand and practice best safety procedures for working on poles and at heights. This short course gives students the opportunity to upgrade their skills and understand the practical importance of industry standard safety practices such as working with harnesses and other personal protective equipment. This course also includes the prerequisite training for performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

The training will explain responsibilities for rescue, health, safety, risk management and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Students get hands on experience and practice with poles and safety harnesses in a simulated environment and learn all aspects of this important safety procedure.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING to your pole top rescue course

  • Proof of identity to show your instructor – this can be either a current driver’s licence, passport or company photo ID
  • Harness and pole strap
  • ARC Rated clothing of 100% cotton, long sleeve shirts and drill pants
  • Hi-Vis Vest
  • Steel Toe (capped) Boots with a defined heel
  • Safety helmet (hard hat)
  • Riggers gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Sun Screen Protection
  • Laptop or digital device (please ensure Adobe Reader is installed)
Prerequisites

HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a prerequisite for the Pole Top Rescue course and is included in this training.

Upon successful completion of this training program, you will awarded the following unit(s) of competency:

HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course information

UETDRRF003 – Perform pole top rescue

  • Pole top rescue preparation – hazards and risk control measures, checking tools and emergency equipment
  • Carrying out pole top rescue – workplace procedures for accessing the pole top, workplace procedures and work instructions for attaching lowering equipment, carrying out CPR and site securing the site
  • Completing pole top rescue – processes for reporting incidents and accidents

 

HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Recognise an emergency situation
  • Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for CPR
  • Seek assistance from emergency response services
  • Perform CPR procedures
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with ARC guidelines
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
  • Operate automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
  • Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policies

With the exception of qualifications, students have 3 months from commencement of training, to complete all learning and demonstrate competence. After this time the enrolment will be cancelled.
