This course is intended for nbn™ contractors performing handling, cleaning, splicing and terminating of fibre telecommunications cables installed in underground pipes, trenches and overhead systems. This course meets the requirements for nbn™ technical skill accreditations:

  • Skill 9 – Fibre inspection and cleaning;
  • Skill 13 – Fibre splicing

What do I take to the nbn™ Fibre Splicer course?

  • Proof of identity to show your instructor – this can be either a current driver’s licence, passport or company photo ID
  • Enclosed shoes or safety boots
  • Appropriate work attire – long sleeve shirt and pants
  • Safety glasses
  • a laptop to class to access learning resources
Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for the nbn™ splicer course, however JB Hunter suggests that students undertaking this course should have a basic understanding of optical fibre cabling practices.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will receive statements of attainment for the following nationally-accredited units of competency:

  • ICTTEN311 – Inspect, clean and handle optical fibre cable and connectors
  • ICTCBL208 – Splice and terminate optical fibre cable
