Gas Test Atmospheres – Self Paced Course

This course is specifically designed for workers who may need to monitor potentially hazardous atmospheres in the telecommunications carrier network. It covers the skills and knowledge required to test the working atmosphere using electronic test apparatus, to determine whether it is safe for the proposed work, and applies to situations where an individual may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace, interpret readings and take appropriate actions based on these readings.

WHO CAN DO THE SELF-PACED GAS TEST ATMOSPHERES COURSE?

Our self-paced Gas Test Atmospheres course is only available to workers who:

  • Have access to all gas detection equipment required to work on underground infrastruture includings pits, pipes and manholes
  • Have access to underground infrastructure where they can perform gas testing activities
  • Have access to someone who can video them performing a number of tasks to prove their competency

HOW DOES SELF-PACED LEARNING WORK?

Workers who meet all entry criteria and are suitable to undertake the self-paced learning will undergo the following steps:

  • Attend a live training webinar with one of our gas testing training specialists
  • Complete all required online theory assessments in the JB Hunter learning portal
  • Have someone video them undertaking a series of practical assessments
  • Upload the practical assessment videos to the JB Hunter learning portal
  • A JB Hunter trainer will review the uploaded videos and contact the learner for any additional information if required

WHAT YOU NEED FOR YOUR SELF-PACED GAS TESTING COURSE

To complete the self-paced course, you will need:

  • A laptop with internet capability
  • A device to record video footage of the practical assessments (can be a phone or video camera)
  • Someone who can video you completing practical assessment activities
  • A suitable site (access to an underground pit or manhole) to undertake the practical assessment
  • Compliant and functional gas testing equipment, including (but not limited to):
    • A gas tester
    • Safe work clothing and PPE
    • Safety footwear

 

How long is the Gas Test Atmosphere certificate valid for?

We recommend a refresher every two (2) years.
