Heatshrink Jointing Practice

The basic copper jointing course is based on nbn™’s approved curriculum (covering nbn Technical Skill Accreditations 2 & 3) and takes the participant through the key skills to work on Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) and Fibre to the Node (FTTN). Participants will get hands on experience in jointing copper cable using a variety of joints.

Learners can gain the skills and knowledge required to understand the telecommunications carrier network architecture and then joint metallic conductor cable on the service. Learners will get hands on experience jointing copper cable using a variety of joints (openable and inline, including epoxy and heat shrink). They will also experience pillar and node termination techniques.

  • nbn Skill 2 –Installing underground copper joint enclosure
  • nbn Skill 3 – Copper jointing

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING to your Copper Jointing course

  • Proof of identity to show your instructor – this can be either a current driver’s licence, passport or company photo ID
  • Enclosed shoes or safety boots
  • Appropriate work attire – long sleeve shirt and pants
  • Safety glasses

Course information

Copper jointing Course

  • Health, safety and environment
  • Cable types, uses, recognition, pair colour coding
  • Joint enclosures – types, uses, recognition
  • Installing butt-ended jointing enclosures, both new and maintenance style joints
  • Conductor jointing
  • Sealing practices
  • Cable pair termination facilities (sockets, wall enclosures, distribution frames and CCU terminations and jumpering)
  • Plan reading, cable pair and jumpering records
  • Basic cable continuity testing
