Asbestos may be found in common materials such as floor tiles, roof shingles, and plasters. However, if asbestos fibres are released into the air and inhaled, the health impacts can be detrimental. In this course, you will learn how to recognise the different types of asbestos and how to respond if you encounter Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) at work.
Asbestos awareness training is mandatory in Australia for anyone whose normal work duties present a reasonable likelihood of disturbing or coming into contact with asbestos.
Job roles and industries may include:
Workers who enter ceiling cavities (such as insulation installers, pest spray operators, air-conditioning installers, maintenance and repair workers, solar panel providers) electricians, plumbers, carpenters and joiners, plasterers, painters and decorators, gas fitters, demolition workers, floor finishers, emergency services workers and building and construction workers.
Most people are unfamiliar with health risks that surround asbestos and fail to understand that when asbestos fibres become airborne can inhaled, this can cause life threatening illnesses. This course is aimed to assist employers, employees and contractors to understand their duties and the associated risks.
There is no legal requirement to repeat an entire formal awareness refresher training course every 12 months. However some form of refresher should be given, as necessary, to help ensure knowledge of asbestos awareness is maintained.
On successful completion learners will receive a Certificate of Completion in Asbestos Awareness.
