As Owner/Chairman of the Board John plays an important role in all aspects of JB Hunter.


Owner/Chairman of the Board

In 1991 John who had a military and management background, saw an opportunity after the deregulation of the telecommunications industry. He believed that there was a market for high quality technical training delivered by industry experts.

JB Hunter started small with the Austel licencing training courses in Newcastle and Sydney, but quickly shifted into high gear adding other mainstream telecommunication skills courses such as internal building cabling, high speed data and optical fibre installation. We became a truly national training provider by extending our course delivery into the major capitals and regional areas of Australia 1994.

JB Hunter has been delivering quality training since its inception. In an ever changing world, we are proud that our focus on the customer and quality have never moved and that we are still the only telecommunications RTO run by its founder.


Terry O'Dea

Chief Executive Officer

Terry is a skilled leader with over twenty five (25) years of experience in senior management roles, focusing on organisational design, development and change management. He continually strives to ensure JB Hunter adds value for clients through tailored solutions and improved business standards.


Susan Barnes

General Manager - Service & Quality

Susan has worked in RTO’s for over twenty five (25) years in a range of senior roles from operational management, quality control, auditing, risk and compliance as well as training product development.  Having worked across several industries including heavy industry, resources, utilities, government as well as aged care and disabilities, Susan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in RTO management, leadership, quality and compliance.


Shane Darwin

General Manager - Product & Delivery

With a telecommunications career spanning the last two decades, Shane’s telecommunications industry experience includes technical installations, field workforce management, technician recruitment and training.
Shane’s role oversees the operational delivery of training across Australia & New Zealand as well as the development of new products, systems and offerings.


Rohan Anderson

Manager, Client Partnerships

Rohan has an extensive background in Education and Training, with a passion for Workforce Development, having been in the Telecommunications sector for a number of years.
Rohan thrives on engaging with industry to build capability through effective skills development and training solutions. His key role is to manage a team of Client Managers dedicated to fostering partnerships with our clients.


NIna Wakefeild

Finance Manager

Nina has spent the majority of her career in the engineering consulting environment. Nina brings financial knowledge and managerial experience to the Finance team to ensure JB Hunter continues to succeed and grow.

Nina works with the CEO and senior management to develop the annual budgets and prepares monthly financial reports and analysis and oversees an accurate and up-to-date general ledger.
