Copper stream specialisations

TELECOMMUNICATIONS LINESWORKER – COPPER

A telecommunications linesworker operates primarily on basic cable installs, monitoring and replacements including lead-ins and terminations in the access network.

They may have to complete underground work including pit and pipe work installation, rodding and roping and cable hauling, installation of enclosures, conduits and earthing systems. Job skills may include jumpering and basic connectivity testing.

CABLE JOINTER COPPER

A Copper Cable Jointer, joints terminates and repairs copper telecommunications cables installed in underground conduits, trenches and overhead systems (external plant). This includes jointing and joint rehabilitation of <=200 pair cables, migration of existing service and removal of basic pair gains systems, pillar upgrade including remediation and augmentation, removal of bridge taps and transfers of copper pair (pillar to joint).

ICTTEN302 – Install telecommunications network equipment

Students to select a practical skill or task based unit

CABLE JOINTER COPPER FOR FTTC (FIBRE TO THE CURB)

Fulfils the technical skills required for the Copper Jointing skills listed under Cable Jointer Copper, but also identifies and validates end user premises copper lead-ins and/or perform copper intercepts between the end user premises copper lead-in and the DPU.

  • Performs testing, diagnosis and resolution of advanced & complex faults

A Telecommunications Linesworker – HFC works predominantly from the tap down to the PCD (Lead-in cabling aerial and underground), but may also work in the customer premise to install the wallplate.

  • Interprets and understands technical design drawings and specifications
  • Conducts site preparation
  • Hauls, prepares, terminates and connects cable, including lead-in (RG6/11) cabling
  • Provisions cable supports and equipment enclosures
  • Affixes HFC equipment (passives and actives)
  • Performs RF measurements, including, basic testing, locating and rectifying simplex faults

Telecommunications Linesworker – HFC works from the tap down to the Premise Connection Device (Lead-in cabling aerial and underground), but may also work in the customer premise to install the wallplate.

  • Interprets and understands technical design drawings and specifications
  • Conducts site preparation
  • Hauls, prepares, terminates and connects cable, including lead-in (RG6/11) cabling
  • Provisions cable supports and equipment enclosures
  • Affixes HFC Equipment (passives and actives)

 

This role is applicable to both MIMA and OMMA (Operate and Maintain Master Agreements) work.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN – HFC

Telecommunications Technician – HFC: Works predominantly from the tap up to the optical node (aerial and underground) within the HFC/Outside Plant network, but can also work tap down.

  • Interprets and understands technical design drawings and specifications
  • Prepares, terminates and connects local distribution (hardline) cabling and lead-in
  • Organises and monitors cabling to ensure compliance with standards
  • Performs cut overs to new systems and equipment
  • Performs radio frequency measurements, including commissioning, testing, locating and rectifying complex faults

Telecommunications Customer Service Technician – HFC: Works to install, activate and assure from the last connection point of the network to the customer premises (tap to NTD). This role is a OMMA specific role and also requires evidence of the ACMA Open Cabling Registration with additional competencies (minimum requirements – Structure and Coaxial).
