Restricted Registration

Completion of this training qualifies the student for ACMA Restricted Cabler Registration.

As defined in Cabling Provider Rules, Restricted cabling work:

  • Can only be performed in relation to a customer’s premises in which the electrical supply voltage is no greater than 240V AC single-phase or 415V AC three-phase;
  • Is connected to customer equipment that complies with the Act, and the requirements of the Labelling Notice;
  • Is the installation and maintenance of customer cabling that terminates directly onto a defined network boundary, either a socket or network termination device (NTD).

A typical example of where Restricted Cabler Registration may be sufficient is a single or multi-storey domestic dwelling where a standard telephone service, security* and fire alarm cabling terminates directly at the network boundary on a socket or network termination device (NTD).

Restricted work DOES NOT include any cabling work connecting to a distributor or a patch panel.

Exemption: In premises where incoming carriers lines are terminated on a distributor or patch panel, Restricted Cablers are only permitted to perform cabling work connected behind compliant customer equipment, for example, connecting sensors & detectors to a compliant alarm panel*.

Pre-requisites:

  • Recognised OH&S training relevant to building cabling activities. Examples include State WorkCover/WorkSafe issued OH&S construction induction cards; OH&S subjects studied at TAFE as part of building or electrical trades;
  • Students should have prior relevant building cabling experience, including the use of hand and power tools.
  • Students should have a knowledge of basic DC principles. A free tutorial is available here.

You are able to attend the course without meeting the pre-requisites, but will be issued with a Letter of Attendance rather than a Certificate. If you do not meet the experience requirements, you may be assessed as 'Not Yet Competent' and will need to gain relevant experience as outlined above and re-assessed at a later date.
