ICT30213 - Certificate III in Telecommunications

This qualfication reflects the role of an operator in the telecommunications industry who can apply a broad range of competencies and a defined range of skills where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection, installation and configuration of equipment in convergence technologies that intergrate radio, optical and internet protocol (IP) based applications.



Qualification Structure

Learners undertaking this qualification are required to undertake the 6 core units, 1 group A elective and five group B electives.

6 Core Units

BSBSUS301A - Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices
ICTWHS2170B - Follow work health and safety and environmental policies and procedures
ICTTEN2008A - Use electrical skills in telecommunications work
ICTCBL3015A - Locate and identify cable system faults 
ICTTEN3056A - Install telecommunications network equipment
ICTTEN2140B - Use hand and power tools

1 Group A Elective

ICTWOR3127A - Supervise worksite activities

5 Group B Electives

Group B electives can be chosen by the learner to meet the requirements of the type of telecommunications work they already or want to undertake.

Electives are organised below into job roles for convenience. Learners can choose any combination of the electives below. 

NBN Splicer Group B Electives

ICTBWN3088B - Install optical fibre splitters in fibre distribution hubs
ICTBWN3100B - Work safely with live fibre to test and commission a fibre to the x installation
ICTCBL2065B - Splice and terminate optical fibre cable for carriers and service providers
ICTBWN3082B - Perform tests on optical communication system and components
ICTOHS2153B - Work safely near power infrastructure

NBN Linesworker/Installer Group B Electives

ICTCBL3018A - Install underground enclosures and conduit
- Install underground cable
ICTBWN3090B - Install lead-in module and cable for fibre to the premises

ICTCBL3021A - Install aerial cable (currently only available through RPL

Cutomer Premises Cabling Group B Electives

ICTCBL2136B - Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Restricted Rule
ICTCBL2137B - Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Open Rule 
ICTCBL3009B - Install, terminate and certify structured cabling installation 
ICTCBL3010B - Install and terminate optical fibre cable on customer premises 
ICTCBL3011B - Install and terminate coaxial cable 

External Cabling Group B Electives

ICTCBL3018A - Install underground enclosures and conduit 
ICTCBL3019A - Install underground cable 
ICTCBL3020A - Construct aerial cable supports (currently only available through RPL)
ICTBWN3090B - Install lead-in module and cable for fibre to the premises
